Buyer beware in the Corners of Khorvaire.
The inevitable gravity of the City of Towers has finally drawn me in, dear readers. But have no worries! Sharn may be large but it still has plenty of corners to be looked into!
The Panaceum of House Jorasco is possibly the largest hospital in all of Khorvaire. It serves hundreds of patients a day with methods both mundane and magical. The doctors, counselors, and chirurgeons of House Jorasco like to brag that they provide the best care anywhere, but here in the Panaceum is where they truly do their best work.
As I was leaving my appointment, I happened across a family that was speaking with a doctor. Their faces were somber and the doctor spoke to them in warm, empathetic tones.
Apparently, the young girl had been suffering from a bout of childhood fever (a perfectly normal and easily treatable malady, the doctor later told me). Unable to afford the services of the House, the father had scraped together whatever coin he could and purchased a tincture from an unlicensed apothecary which not only did not help with the fever but also left the child blind.
As the doctor informed them that a cure would require magical intervention from a 'Marked physician at a cost the destitute family could not afford, the mother sank to the floor weeping with her daughter in her arms. The father rubbed his face and explained that they had no means or collateral to secure the funds.
It was at this point that the dwarven gentleman approached the discussion.
Bedecked in fine robes, the dwarf cleared his throat as he approached the family. He produced a copy of the Sharn Inquisitive's latest broadsheet and showed them a recent article detailing the story of the unlicensed apothecary, their arrest, and that an anonymous group of donors from among Sharn's wealthiest citizen's had collected a fund to pay for the treatment of the victims of the scam.
The dwarf smiled at the shock on everyone's faces as he reached his hands into his pocket (wearing a copper ring an each of his ten fingers, how fashionable!) and produced a banking writ which was given to the family. He then turned and left without another word.
As the family and the doctor began to arrange their daughter's care, I took my leave as well.
Miracles of generosity can and do happen in the Corners of Khorvaire.
