Everyone is welcome to continue learning in the Corners of Khorvaire.
One of the most famous landmarks of Korth is the Tower of the Twelve, an august place of learning for all the Dragonmarked Houses. Education of all types takes place on twelve of its thirteen floors. While each House has its own specialties, cross-discipline education also takes place as a way to encourage inter-House cooperation.
It was with this in mind that I audited a one day class called “Simple Dishes Anyone Can Cook” on the floor of the Tower held by House Ghallanda.
Known as Dhul'meer (a somewhat childish name that translates to “Sweet Dung”), it is a sweet little truffle made by combining butter, sweetened condensed milk, and cocoa powder in a pot over low heat until you can see the bottom of the pan for two to three seconds when dragging a spatula through it. It is then left to chill on a greased plate for an hour before it is rolled into small balls by hand, which can then be rolled in a coating (traditionally chocolate sprinkles, crushed nuts, or my favorite sliced mint leaves).
As the other students waited for their concoctions to cool, I made use of my wizardly skills to cool mine magically and began rolling. I had glanced away from the instructor, Professor Dhezdi Atruss d'Ghallanda, for only a moment when she surprised me by suddenly being behind me and laughing with a loud whoop!
“Spellcasters! Ha! I love it when they send me spellcasters! What's the matter, Mister d'Sivis? No patience? Well, then. I guess we'll fill the time for you while everyone else waits and discuss the many other ways spells can be used in cooking! How about that? Ha!”
To be honest, I was rightfully shamed. I should have known to pay better attention to my instructor and follow the chef's orders while working in their kitchen.
After the hour had passed, she came back to me with one that she had rolled herself.
“Try yours first. Then try mine and taste what a difference doing things the old fashioned way can make. Ha!”
I had to admit, hers were better.
