Wonders abound in the skies above the Corners of Khorvaire.
At the request of one of my readers, I visited the seat of power of House Vadalis in the City of Towers: Pegasus Spire. While all manner of beasts can be found at the House enclave in Dragon Towers, the Spire is home to the stable that gives it its name. The Pegasi are magnificent to behold even when they aren't competing in the famed Race of the Eight Winds.
I was surprised, however, by a throng of young people from all over the City of Towers who had gathered around the grounds of the Spire in hopes of seeing the elegant beasts take flight. Shortly after noon, the stable hands brought the Pegasi out and fitted them with their bridles and saddles. Sleeker than normal horses, they champed at the turf and stretched their broad wings as they awaited their riders to take them for their daily exercise. The crowd of teens began jockeying for position as the Vadalis riders strode forth from their barracks and joined their mounts.
Without much ado, the riders mounted and took to the sky as a few shed feathers fluttered towards the crowd below. With great hew and cry the youngsters took off after the falling feathers. Scuffles ensued and eventually winners of the wrestling matches emerged clutching their prizes.
I asked one of the dejected teenagers who had not received a feather why there was such a fuss over something that would ordinarily be swept out of the stable as trash. Apparently, among the "teenage set" of certain districts of Sharn it is in vogue to write one's "sweetie" using a Pegasus feather as a quill. Expressing one's affection in a note, one then wraps said note around the feather as a token of one's dedication before delivering it.
So, to answer the questions of my dear reader who suggested I visit this sight in Sharn: Yes indeed there are Pegasi living in the stables of the Pegasus Spire. No, unfortunately one cannot "have a go" unless you are on very, very good terms with House Vadalis. But if one is willing to brave a throng of twitterpated teenagers, one may very well come away with a souvenir for one's sweetie.
Nothing is too difficult when done for love in the Corners of Khorvaire.
