Keep it secret, keep it safe in the Corners of Khorvaire.
With all the day-to-day magic that the fortunate get to enjoy, it's easy to forget that sometimes the simplest solution to a problem is usually the best.
As I completed my contract with the House Kundarak dwarves I had travelled with, I found myself free to wander the streets of Korunda Gate. Idly making my way down a side street, I came across an outdoor workshop where two dwarven siblings were performing their trade as locksmiths in the most literal sense of the word.
Edvik and Noranna Soranath manufacture simple but sturdy mechanical locks. When I asked them what was important to them about their business, they had the most heartfelt reply.
"We make simple locks for simple folks." they said. "Not everyone is wealthy enough to buy Kundarak locks, with their enchantments and keycharms and such. Sometimes it's just about a farmer wanting to lock their barn or a craftsman wanting to secure their toolshed at the end of the work day. Not everyone can afford a magical lock, so we provide them with strong steel at a fair price."
"Once we get a decent load together, we'll cart them all down to the markets at Krona Peak. Plenty of customers down that way."
I asked them if it was difficult to operate a business that was so thoroughly overshadowed by a Dragonmarked House.
"Not a bit, not a bit. We're Kundarak licensed after all. You have to respect the quality and craftwork of House Kundarak locks. But they can't cover every need all the time. So they're more than happy to recognize the quality of our work and let us sell our wares to help the common folk of the Holds."
Just don't forget where you left your keys in the Corners of Khorvaire.
