Having recently visited the Korranath in Sharn, I was quite eager to see how the Temple of Kol Korran in this mountain city compared. No offense to the City of Towers, but comparing the Korranath to the Temple is like comparing a candle to a bonfire. The wealth on display was profound to say the least.
Speaking of the least, I as privileged to witness a monthly event of the Temple called the "Procession of Generosity" where priests on the Temple would lead their wealthy patrons out into the city to seek out the poor and downtrodden. Not simply to hand them a few coins and move on, but to speak with them and hear about their lives, their troubles and their plights.
"Kol Korran teaches that wealth is not a thing to be hoarded," one priest told me. "True wealth is not in the keeping, for we do not worship the one who keeps. True wealth lies in what your wealth can be used to do to help the world. While we do encourage our Vassals to give alms, we also try to teach them to seek out the sources of destitution. Loss of employment, loss of family, lack of opportunity or even the ravages of the Last War. A few coins only treat the symptoms, but the offer of a job or even just a warm place to stay can cure the disease. Praise the Sovereigns."
I watched as an obviously wealthy dwarf spoke with a family that had come to Krona Peak after their farmland had been ravaged by wildfire, leaving them homeless. It just so happened that the dwarf had recently purchased himself a manse in need of renovation and he was looking for staff to do the work for a fair wage as well as room and board.
"There you have it," the priest exulted. "Not just a few Crowns dropped in a bowl, to be moved on from and forgotten. But the source learned and addressed. Lives changed for the better. That's the World. That's Wealth."
